Morgana Sapienza

Bio

I’m an Italian contemporary artist who finds her voice through abstract and intuitive painting. I was born in Catania in 1996, where my artistic journey first took shape. After studying fine arts there, I earned my degree in Painting in 2019 from the Academy of Fine Arts. Since 2020, I’ve been working with BeniaminArt Gallery, where I showed my work in both solo and group exhibitions. My work has always been deeply shaped by the movement of the unconscious. There’s a kind of inner dialogue that happens every time I approach a canvas — a mix of introspection, exploration, and growing awareness. Since 2023, I’ve been living and working in Dresden, where that journey continues to evolve.

WHAT INSPIRES ME

I’m inspired by the complexity of the human psyche, by the invisible movements of the unconscious, and by the deep connection between body, memory, and emotion.
I’m drawn to inner processes — moments of rupture, healing, and transformation — and to the silent traces they leave within us.

Music plays a key role in my practice.
It allows me to access an emotional space where images and sensations arise spontaneously.
I’m also inspired by textures, colors, and by the physical act of creating, which becomes a form of embodied reflection.

I often find inspiration in life’s paradoxes: light and shadow, pain and beauty, emptiness and fullness.

Dance, yoga, philosophical and psychological, teachings also nourish my work — offering perspectives that help me explore the self and it's transformations.

ARTISTIC VISION & PHILOSOPHY

My artistic practice was born as an act of self-inquiry and healing.
Through painting, the body, and gesture, I enter a state of deep listening in which forms, impulses, and memories from the unconscious can emerge.

Each work takes shape through a spontaneous flow, aided by music and bodily movement: it is through dance that I access an authentic dimension of myself.
The creative process is experienced as a ritual — a sublimatory and cathartic act.

My research explores archetypes related to genesis, the concept of creation and destruction, and transformation. The recurring symbols — slits, voids, membranes, openings — evoke a body not represented but embodied.
In my visual language, the void is not merely a wound but also a portal to rebirth: an ambiguous space where Eros and Thanatos — the vital and the destructive energies — meet and coexist in a harmonious dance.

The material itself becomes symbolic flesh.
Reliefs, lacerations, and drips are traces of a psychic body in motion.
Black, white, and red alternate as primal forces: emptiness and fullness, light and shadow, life and death, pain and pleasure.
My main interest lies in the movement of the unconscious and the exploration of identity and soul.
